Unleash the joy of exercising to music!

27 Oct 2023 | Written by The Joy Club

Get ready to unlock a whole new level of enjoyment in your workout routine. Today, we’re going to explore the incredible benefits of exercising to music. It’s time to let the rhythm guide you as you embark on a fitness class filled with joy and motivation.

The power of music

There’s something truly magical about the effect music has on us. It has the ability to soothe, to motivate and to make us smile through, what might be, a challenging workout. When you exercise to music, you tap into this power. In fact, studies have shown that exercising to music directly impacts our stamina and endurance levels. The rhythmic cues trick our brains into perceiving less effort, allowing us to surpass our expectations.

You could tap into that power during a ‘Solo dance’ class with member-favourite teacher, Tracie. Every week Tracie teaches a different style of dance, guiding you through the steps so you can get moving and learn how to Tango, Waltz, Cha Cha Cha and more. This is a really fun class with a brilliant soundtrack that welcomes dancers of all abilities — no previous experience is required!

Music as your motivational coach

We all have those days when the mere thought of exercise feels like an uphill battle. Especially with the days getting shorter, the weather turning colder and offering fewer opportunities to go outside. Music can be a wonderful tool to help with the motivation to exercise — when your favourite songs come on it can be hard not to move!

Exercising to music can help to bring a whole new beat into your routine, making each movement more fun. All of the facilitators at The Joy Club know how to mix a good playlist, but Denise’s ‘Walk fit, sit fit’ playlist always brings a smile to our faces. With the winter quickly drawing in, Denise’s class offers us the chance to get some steps in without even leaving our homes.

You could boost your step count by up to 1600 in just 15 minutes with the ‘walk fit’ part of the session. The great music means you won’t even notice how hard you’re working. The steps are easy to follow from the comfort of your own home. Once your steps are in, it’s time to take a seat for ‘sit fit’, but don’t get too comfortable, as you’ll be strengthening those all-important muscles from top to toe. Get the best of both worlds with this fitness class of two halves.

There is a great range of fun exercise classes to try at The Joy Club, from Low-impact dance with Denise, Cardio with Jill, Tai Chi with Jerry and Yogalates with Margarita (and more!). Whether the music is uplifting or calming, there’s a class and a playlist you are sure to enjoy.
