Get ready to ‘travel’ this summer with The Joy Club

03 Jul 2023 | Written by The Joy Club

Explore cultures, cuisines and histories from around the world this month with The Joy Club…

As the weather warms up, many of us will be dusting off our buckets and spades, retrieving beach towels from the depths of dressers and getting out to enjoy the long-awaited sunshine. The summer-holiday season can sometimes be as frantic as it is exciting. Passports may need renewing, last-minute flights may require booking and seemingly endless lists of ‘what to pack’, ‘where to eat’ and ‘where to go’ will need referring to. That’s why – between reapplying that factor 50 suncream – it’s important to slow down and take a moment to truly appreciate what this season has to offer.

Whether you have plans to enjoy Mr Whippies in Britain’s beautiful coastal towns or you’re jetting off to drink Sangria in southern Spain, here at The Joy Club we have you covered. Throughout July, we will be hosting events and providing an array of on-demand videos, audio and informative articles to inspire members to make the most of the sunny days ahead.

For anyone looking to reap the cultural rewards of travel without the hassle of over-subscribed flights and over-packed suitcases, you can find a wealth of resources in The Joy Club’s travel section. Here, you can explore the mysteries of Easter Island, the wonders of Cham Tibetan ritual dance in Bhutan as well as topical travelling content, such as the rise of ecotourism and how we can take our holidays whilst respecting nature and wildlife.

You can also find summer holiday inspiration in some of the articles already published on our site. Freelance writer Chris Guiton wrote on our evolving attitudes towards holidays and the origins of recreational travel in his piece ‘Getting away from it all: holidays past and present’. The Joy Club member Sandra shared her humorous poem ‘Staycation’ on her stormy visit to Whitley Bay – because fine weather never is a guarantee on any British holiday.
