30 Jul 2024 | Written by Marina O'Shea

In this episode, The Joy Club member and poet, Josie Baker, shares the highlights and hiccups of her annual journey to the renowned Hay on Wye Literary Festival.

Join Josie as she recounts her experiences, from listening to captivating talks by authors like Sarah Bernstein, Eley Williams, Howard Jacobson and Daisy Goodwin, to the emotional moment of almost losing her father’s cherished walking stick.

Through her vivid storytelling, Josie transports us to the heart of the festival, offering a glimpse into the bustling atmosphere, the engaging discussions and the camaraderie of fellow literary enthusiasts.

She reflects on the logistics of the trip, the excitement of book signings, and the delight of exploring the diverse food stalls.

Inspired by her visit, Josie also presents two of her own literary creations. First, she shares ‘Life Unedited,’ a raw and honest stream-of-consciousness piece celebrating the spontaneous act of writing. Then, she captivates us with a thoughtful poem, ‘How To Be,’ inspired by a quote from Molière on the art of simplicity and connection.

Tune in to hear Josie Baker’s delightful tales and poetic reflections from her cherished annual escape to the Hay on Wye Literary Festival.
